KBL Round 29 (Regular Season): LG Sakers lose to Seoul Knights

Top ranked Sakers (22-10) recorded its tenth loss in Seoul on Thursday night. Visitors were defeated by fourth ranked Knights (19-13) 89-76. Seoul Knights made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American center Jameel Warney (203-1994, college: Stony Brook) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international forward Youngjun An (195-1995) chipped in 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Egyptian center Assem Marei (206-1992, college: MSU) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Seoul Knights maintains fourth place with 19-13 record. Defending champion LG Sakers still keep top position with ten games lost. Seoul Knights are looking forward to face Mobis Phoebus (#9) in Ulsan in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. LG Sakers will play on the road against KCC Egis (#5) in Busan and are hoping to win this game.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Busan: Sonicboom (#6) and Egis (#5). Sonicboom (17-16) won against visiting Egis (17-15) 107-95. American forward Derrick Williams (203-1991, college: Arizona) orchestrated the victory by scoring 32 points and 5 rebounds. Sungwook Kang contributed with 20 points, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners. American forward Shawn Long (208-1993, college: Louisiana, agency: Pensack Sports) answered with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds (on 13-of-15 shooting from the field) for KCC Egis. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Suwon KT maintains sixth place with 17-16 record. KCC Egis at the other side keep the fifth position with 15 games lost. Suwon KT will play against league's second-placed Anyang at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. KCC Egis will play against the league's leader LG Sakers and hope to get back on the winning track.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Wonju DB (20-12) against seventh ranked Skygunners (12-20) on Thursday night. Visiting Wonju DB was defeated by Skygunners in Daegu 90-77. Ji Hoon Kang stepped up and scored 24 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners. Ethan Alvano responded with 22 points and 4 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Sono SG maintains seventh place with 12-20 record. Loser Wonju DB keeps the third position with 12 games lost. Sono SG will meet league's second-placed Anyang on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Wonju DB will play against KCC Egis and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games of round 29 were very predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Seoul Thunders were defeated by Mobis Phoebus in Ulsan 75-74. Anyang beat Daegu at home 79-67. Wonju DB was destroyed by Seoul Knights on the opponent's court 93-65.



Suwon KT - KCC Egis 107-95

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Busan: Sonicboom (#6) and Egis (#5). Sonicboom (17-16) won against visiting Egis (17-15) 107-95. Suwon KT forced 23 KCC Egis turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. American forward Derrick Williams (203-1991, college: Arizona) orchestrated the victory by scoring 32 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Sungwook Kang (183-2004) contributed with 20 points, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Four Sonicboom players scored in double figures. We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Ulsan where 9th ranked Samsung Thunders (10-21) were edged by tenth ranked Mobis Phoebus (11-21) 75-74 on Tuesday. Guard Myeong-jin Seo (191-1999) stepped up and scored 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and Nigerian center John Egbunu (211-1994, college: Florida) chipped in 19 points. Turkish power forward Kerem Kanter (208-1995, college: Xavier) responded with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 11 rebounds (on 14-of-18 shooting from the field) and Kwan-hee Lee (-1988) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Mobis Phoebus moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Daegu. Loser Samsung Thunders dropped to the bottom position with 21 games lost. Mobis Phoebus will meet at home higher ranked Seoul Knights (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Seoul Thunders will play against Daegu (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

No shocking result in a game when second ranked Anyang (21-11) defeated at home 8th ranked Daegu (11-21) 79-67 on Wednesday. Anyang outrebounded Daegu 47-33 including 16 on the offensive glass. American power forward Johnny OBryant III (207-1993, college: LSU, agency: Slash Sports) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and the former international point guard Jihoon Park (184-1995) chipped in 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Ricardo Ratliffe (203-1989, college: Missouri) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and Filipino guard Samjosef Belangel (177-1999) scored 19 points and 4 assists. Daegu's coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Anyang maintains second place with 21-11 record behind leader LG Sakers. Loser Daegu keeps the eighth position with 21 games lost. They share it with Mobis Phoebus. Anyang will meet at home Sono SG (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
